Japan 2017 Day 10: Tokyo (Haneda Airport)

We arrived at Haneda airport, and wandered around the airport shopping area. There were lots of fake cherry blossom trees.

We arrived at Haneda airport, and wandered around the airport shopping area until it was time to check in. There were quite a lot of shops in Levels 4 and 5 of the airport, including a Hello Kitty shop with a very cute Hello Kitty vending machine.

Tokyo International Airport (東京国際空港), commonly known as Haneda Airport (羽田空港), Tokyo Haneda Airport, and Haneda International Airport (IATA: HND, ICAO: RJTT), is one of the two primary airports that serve the Greater Tokyo Area. The official website has an English section. In 2020, Skytrax rated Haneda as the 2nd Best Airport after Singapore’s Changi Airport, and is the World’s Cleanest and Best Domestic Airport.

We checked in, went to the airport lounge. I had a nice shower and a good dinner before boarding the plane.

It was still raining quite heavily when the plane left off. I was surprised how far the plane had to taxi on the runway. The actual runway (the fourth or D runway) is on reclaimed land far away from the airport itself. The plane had to go on a bridge connecting the runway island to the mainland.

I slept for most of the journey and did not wake until breakfast time. The plane landed slightly ahead of schedule, and we passed through immigration and customs without any hassles. We then took the train. Unfortunately due to track work on the North Shore line, we had to catch a bus from Wynyard to Chatswood. Still, it wasn’t too bad. Wynyard Walk has elevators that took us all the way to Clarence Street where the replacement bus service starts from.

So that’s it – 10 days of fun in Japan and 12 days in total! All in all I would say it has been a fun holiday … a bit exhausting and we pretty much walked an average of 20,000 steps each day with no rest day.
